Success! Whitman's Invite camp brings top players together in a small setting

We recently wrapped up our first annual Whitman College Volleyball Invite Camp that brought together a small group of highly skilled juniors and sophomores interested in learning more about our program.  The campers came from Idaho, California, Oregon and Washington and spent a wonderful weekend experiencing the close-knit community Whitman offers to it's student-athletes.  We ate meals together in the newly renovated, historic Grover-Alston home (a campus meeting place, study center, community gathering spot), trained in our gorgeous Sherwood gym, and then the group got an up close look at Anderson Hall (one of the freshmen dorms), where they were housed for two nights.

We couldn't be more pleased at the talent and competitiveness of this group of athletes who chose to take a closer look at what Whitman has to offer.  The level of training over the 2 days was extremely strong and there wasn't a moment when competition was lagging on the court.

The visiting athletes were treated to some of Walla Walla's secret hot spots ( pizza at Sweet Basil anyone?) and access to our two graduated seniors, Alex Graves and Brea Robirds, who were willing to answer loads of curious questions about the student-athlete experience at Whitman.

As the weekend wrapped up the players and their families were given an in depth, hour-long session on college admissions and financial aid----a wealth of information from one of our assistant directors of Admissisons, Katie DePonty.

The camp was a success from all angles---and really provided an exciting glimpse for me, as a coach, into the future of our volleyball program at Whitman given the character and athletic caliber of the attendees in our first year hosting this camp!
