Our first conference win, and it was made possible by a higher, steadier level of game intensity and execution. The players have kept at it in practice---pushing their comfort levels of intensity and we started to see last night the true character of this team coming through! There has been great team leadership, communication, support of each other and the outcome was success. The team hit .225 over the four sets---Our challenge is to do it again tonight---a challenge we welcome.
Last night the team executed a game plan of playing with a higher level of engagement from start to finish; to keep energy, focus and effort steady and intense. Corie and Olivia committed to using their strengths in the middle to help our outside hitters, and they were instrumental in causing the LC blockers problems all night. Olivia had a career night hitting .421 on 19 swings with no errors. Rachel C kept her hitters swinging, making some solid setting decisions throughout the match.
Rachel C, Jillian, Corie, Rachel S and Carrie all put pressure on the passers for LC---staying aggressive with our serving game, and limiting their offense.
On the outside we had both our players rising to the occasion to help their teammates----Jillian getting the job done with another stellar 20 kill night hitting .298. Carrie swung aggressively throughout the match and ended the night with one of her best performances on the court----hitting .242 and adding 11 kills in the effort.
I love what's happening defensively too---we are playing more instinctively, going after the ball, extending our range and starting to create some opportunities to get some transition kills that we've never had before. Defenders made it possible for our hitters to keep attacking too---saving a few LC blocks with good coverage.
This win was about team and perseverance---the exhaustion of choosing to be good!
